Biography
Charles practices in all areas of patent law with a particular emphasis in mechanical, biotechnology, and medical fields, as well as extensive experience in the electrical and computer software fields. His patent experience includes patent prosecution, including application drafting.
Prior to joining the firm, Charles was a former patent examiner in the biomedical art unit at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), and examined patent applications relating to various medical respiratory, physical therapy, and orthopedic devices/equipment.
Charles’ engineering projects and scientific research has included genetic sequencing research at NobleGen Biosciences, submarine antenna handling system design research at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab, surgical technique efficacy in the US Military, and antigen/antibody research at NIH. In addition, as a Medical Corps officer in the US Navy, he studied medicine at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences and served in leadership positions that had duties including acting as a liaison between military command and junior officers, and supervising 170 medical officers in the Navy, Army, Air Force, and Public Health Service.
