Biography
David Vanik is a registered patent attorney specializing in patent prosecution and counseling, post grant procedures before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (“USPTO”), and patent portfolio strategy in the chemical and biotechnology arts. David enjoys the technological nature of practicing patent law and takes pride in assisting clients from around the globe in achieving their respective legal and business objectives.
David has over ten years of law firm experience and has worked on a wide-range of patent prosecution matters and USPTO post grant proceedings. For example, David was part of a team that successfully defended a high revenue product from a third-party patent challenge in a complex Inter-Partes Review (“IPR”) proceeding that also involved a co-pending reissue and supplemental examination. In addition to IPR experience, David has significant experience in additional USPTO post grant proceedings, for example, a Post Grant Review, ex parte and inter-partes reexamination proceedings, reissue proceedings, and a supplemental examination.
David began his career in Intellectual property as a Patent Examiner with the USPTO while attending evening law school. While working as an Examiner with the USPTO, David gained first-hand experience related to the inter-workings of the USPTO. This experience has helped David advise clients on strategies related to navigating USPTO procedures. After law school, David transitioned from the USPTO to private practice at a large Washington, D.C. area law firm where he assisted clients in handling world-wide patent portfolios.
